Sous le Vent(1933)

A green chypre from Jacques Guerlain, opening on bergamot and green notes, moving through a heart of jasmine, rose, and clary sage, and closing on oakmoss, vetiver, and labdanum. Sous le Vent, Downwind, evokes an airy, outdoor freshness reinforced by its green, herbal opening and clary sage heart, distinguishing it from the house's warmer orientals released around the same period. Its oakmoss-vetiver-labdanum base follows the general chypre architecture established by Coty and matured by Guerlain's own Mitsouko, applied here with an unusually fresh, herbaceous character.
