Terms of Use

Olfactionary ("we", "us", the "Site") is an independently-run fragrance reference and education project at olfactionary.com. By using the Site — browsing, creating an account, commenting, rating, uploading a photo, or using the search assistant — you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Site.

1. What Olfactionary is

Olfactionary is a reference directory of perfumes, brands, perfumers, raw materials, and fragrance notes, along with educational content (the Olfactionary Academy, Historic Texts, and Stories sections). A large part of the catalog is built and verified with the help of AI tools cross-checked against public sources — we mark each entry's review status honestly rather than presenting unverified content as fact. We make no guarantee that any specific entry is complete, current, or error-free, and the Site should not be treated as the sole authority on any perfume's formulation, history, or safety.

2. Not professional advice

Content about raw materials, allergens, and IFRA restrictions is provided for general education and reference only. It is not medical, dermatological, or safety advice. If you have a fragrance allergy or sensitivity, consult a qualified professional rather than relying on this Site.

3. Accounts

Creating an account requires a name and email address (or a Google sign-in). You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for activity that happens under your account. You may request that we delete your account and associated data by contacting us (see Section 9) — we don't currently offer automatic self-service deletion, but we will act on any such request.

4. Your content

If you post a comment, rating, or photo, or suggest a perfume, you're representing that you have the right to post it and that it doesn't infringe anyone else's rights or break the law. You keep ownership of what you post, but you're granting us a license to display it on the Site. We may remove or refuse to publish any user content — including photos, which are reviewed before appearing publicly — at our discretion, without notice, particularly for spam, abuse, or infringing material.

5. Affiliate links and purchases

Some "Buy" links on perfume pages go to third-party retailers through affiliate programs (including Amazon Associates, CJ Affiliate, and Rakuten Advertising). If you make a purchase through one of these links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. We don't process payments, ship products, or control pricing or availability — any purchase is a transaction between you and the retailer, governed by that retailer's own terms.

6. Trademarks and brand names

Perfume names, brand names, and perfumer names referenced on the Site are the property of their respective owners and are used here for identification and editorial/reference purposes only. Mentioning a brand or product does not imply any affiliation with, sponsorship by, or endorsement from that brand.

7. Acceptable use

Please don't: scrape or bulk-download the catalog for republication, attempt to break or bypass the Site's security, upload malicious files, impersonate another person, or use the Site to harass others. We may suspend or terminate access for anyone who violates these Terms.

8. Disclaimer and limitation of liability

The Site is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Olfactionary and its operator are not liable for any damages arising from your use of the Site, reliance on its content, or any purchase made through an affiliate link.

9. Governing law

Olfactionary is operated from India. These Terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts of India shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from your use of the Site, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

10. Grievance redressal

In accordance with the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, any complaints or concerns regarding content on the Site — including comments, ratings, or photos posted by users — can be raised via the Get in Touch page. We aim to acknowledge complaints within 24 hours and resolve them within 15 days, as required under the Rules.

11. Changes and contact

We may update these Terms from time to time; the "Last updated" date above will reflect the latest revision. Continued use of the Site after a change means you accept the updated Terms. Questions or requests (including account deletion) can be sent via the Get in Touch page.
