Chamade(1969)

Created by Jean-Paul Guerlain, Chamade opens on green notes, bergamot, and hyacinth, moves through a heart of jasmine, ylang-ylang, and blackcurrant bud, and closes on vanilla, tonka bean, and balsam. Its name, a military drumbeat historically signaling surrender, was chosen to evoke the feeling of surrendering to love, drawn from the Francoise Sagan novel of the same title. The blackcurrant bud note gives the green floral opening a distinctive tart, slightly animalic edge before the composition settles into Guerlain's familiar vanillic warmth.
