Bal a Versailles(1962)

Created by Jean Desprez for his own house, Bal a Versailles, Ball at Versailles, opens on bergamot, orange, and neroli, moves through a heart of rose, jasmine, and ylang-ylang, and closes on a dense base of civet, musk, vanilla, and sandalwood. Its name evokes the opulent masked balls once held at the Palace of Versailles, and its rich, animalic civet-vanilla base was designed to conjure that same aristocratic, sensuous extravagance. The fragrance became one of the most historically significant French orientals of the 1960s, still cited today for its unusually generous, old-world use of civet.
