Created by Christopher Sheldrake for Serge Lutens, Ambre Sultan opens on coriander and oregano, moves through a heart of myrtle and laurel, and closes on amber, vanilla, patchouli, and labdanum. Its unusually herbal, almost savory approach to the amber genre, built around Mediterranean maquis-scrub herbs rather than conventional sweet spices, made it one of the most distinctive and influential amber compositions in niche perfumery, still frequently cited as a benchmark for herbal-amber construction.
