Created by Alberto Morillas for Giorgio Armani, Acqua di Gio opens on bergamot, neroli, and marine notes, moves through a heart of jasmine, rosemary, and sage, and closes on musk, cedarwood, amber, and patchouli. Its clean, sun-warmed Mediterranean freshness, evoking the Italian island of Pantelleria where Armani was reportedly inspired, became one of the most commercially successful masculine fragrances ever released, defining and popularizing the aquatic-aromatic genre that dominated mainstream men's perfumery through the following two decades.
