White Shoulders(1945)

Created by Josephine Catapano for the American house Evyan, White Shoulders opens on aldehydes, bergamot, and peach, moves through a heart of tuberose, lily of the valley, narcissus, and jasmine, and closes on sandalwood, musk, and amber. Its rich, white-floral-forward structure, dominated by tuberose, made it one of the definitive American mid-century florals, associated closely with postwar glamour and formal eveningwear. The fragrance became one of the best-selling American perfumes of the mid-20th century and remains recognized as a signature achievement of Catapano's career, who would later create the equally significant Youth Dew for Estee Lauder.
