Scandal(1933)

Created by Andre Fraysse for Lanvin, Scandal opens on bergamot and aldehydes, moves through a heart of jasmine, rose, and carnation, and closes on leather, oakmoss, civet, and vetiver. Its provocative English-language name, following Lanvin's earlier My Sin, again targeted the house's American market, embracing a titillating, faintly transgressive marketing angle similar to Dana's contemporaneous Tabu. Its leather-civet-oakmoss base gives it a darker, more assertive character than Lanvin's aldehydic-floral flagship Arpege released six years earlier.
