Polo(1978)

Created by Carlos Benaim for Ralph Lauren, Polo opens on pine, juniper berries, and lavender, moves through a heart of leather, patchouli, and pine needle, and closes on tobacco, oakmoss, and cedar. Its rugged, woody-leather structure matched Ralph Lauren's established fashion identity built around aspirational American sporting and equestrian imagery, and the fragrance became one of the definitive masculine colognes of the late 1970s and 1980s.
