Nuit de Noel(1922)

Created by Ernest Daltroff for Caron, Nuit de Noel, Christmas Eve, opens on ylang-ylang and a tincture of rose, moves through a heart of jasmine and rose, and closes on oakmoss, sandalwood, vanilla, and Caron's own proprietary Mousse de Saxe musk base, a distinctive licorice-and-leather-tinged accord the house developed and used across several of its compositions. Its chypre-adjacent oakmoss base, paired with the warmth of vanilla and the house's signature Mousse de Saxe, produces a rich, dark, wintry impression well suited to its evocative holiday name. The fragrance was presented in a distinctive black glass bottle with a gold tassel, echoing the deep, nocturnal character of the scent itself and becoming one of Caron's most recognizable packaging designs. Nuit de Noel remains one of Caron's most celebrated and longest-running creations, still associated closely with the winter season it was named for.
