Narcisse Blanc(1922)

A white counterpart to Caron's earlier Narcisse Noir, this Ernest Daltroff composition opens on bergamot and aldehydes before a heart of narcissus, jasmine, and rose, closing on musk and sandalwood, lighter and less animalic than its 1911 predecessor's civet-heavy base. The aldehydic opening situates it within the wave of aldehyde-forward compositions sweeping French perfumery in the early 1920s following the template Chanel No. 5 would popularize the following year. Pairing it conceptually with the earlier Narcisse Noir, black and white, reflects a naming strategy Caron would use again, offering two contrasting interpretations of a shared floral theme.
