L'Aimant(1927)

Created by Francois Coty, L'Aimant, The Magnet, opens on aldehydes, bergamot, and peach, moves through a heart of rose, jasmine, and orchid, and closes on sandalwood, vanilla, and musk. Its aldehydic-peach opening follows the same general architecture popularized by Chanel No. 5, reflecting how quickly the aldehydic-fruity-floral template spread across even the houses, like Coty's, that had pioneered earlier fragrance genres themselves. The orchid note in the heart is relatively unusual for the period, most florals of the era favoring rose, jasmine, and ylang-ylang as their central materials. L'Aimant proved commercially durable, remaining part of Coty's catalog for decades.
