Fidji Parfum(1966)

Created by Josephine Catapano for Guy Laroche, Fidji opens on bergamot, aldehydes, and hyacinth, moves through a heart of gardenia, ylang-ylang, jasmine, and rose, and closes on oakmoss, vetiver, sandalwood, and musk. Named for the Pacific island nation, it evokes an exotic, tropical femininity that helped define a green-floral genre distinct from the sharper galbanum-driven greens of Vent Vert and Ma Griffe. Catapano built Fidji around a lush, multi-white-floral heart balanced against a mossy, vetiver-rich base. It became one of Guy Laroche's most historically significant and commercially successful fragrances, remaining in production for decades.
