Eau Sauvage(1966)

Christian Dior · Edmond Roudnitska · Chypre · Citrus

At a glance

Created by Edmond Roudnitska for Christian Dior, Eau Sauvage opens on lemon, bergamot, basil, and rosemary, moves through a heart of jasmine, carnation, and coriander, and closes on oakmoss, vetiver, patchouli, and musk. Roudnitska built the fragrance around Hedione, a then-new synthetic material with a translucent, jasmine-like radiance, using it at an unusually high concentration to create a citrus-chypre freshness with a luminous quality no earlier masculine fragrance had achieved. It is widely regarded as one of the most influential masculine fragrances of the 20th century, its structure becoming a template still referenced by contemporary perfumers. Roudnitska considered Eau Sauvage among his most technically significant achievements, and it remains part of Dior's core men's lineup more than half a century after its release.

ngl this still slaps decades later. that citrus opening feels more modern than half the stuff releasing in 2026. settles close to skin after an hour tho, kinda like that
