Cordon Vert(1909)
Coty ยท Francois Coty ยท Floral
A companion piece to Cordon Rouge released the same year, this Coty composition swaps the red ribbon's mixed florals for a greener register, opening on bergamot and green notes before its floral heart, closing on the same musk-and-woods base. Cordon Vert, Green Ribbon, likely continues the honorific-ribbon naming device of its red counterpart, suggesting the pair were conceived as related variations rather than entirely independent creations. The addition of green notes to the opening, absent from Cordon Rouge, gives this version a slightly sharper, more vegetal freshness ahead of the floral heart. As with much of Coty's smaller 1909 output, detailed note documentation has not survived in the same depth as his signature compositions like L'Origan or Ambre Antique. The Cordon Rouge and Cordon Vert pairing offers a small window into how Coty sometimes released thematically linked variations rather than entirely standalone fragrances.
