Created by Mark Buxton for Comme des Garcons, 2 opens on aldehydes, angelica, tea, and mate, moves through an unconventional heart including an actual ink accord alongside magnolia and spices, and closes on incense, patchouli, cedar, and labdanum. Its deliberately abstract, non-floral structure matched designer Rei Kawakubo's avant-garde, deconstructionist fashion identity and remains one of the most conceptually ambitious fragrances of the late 1990s.
