Created by Jean Kerleo for Jean Patou, 1000 opens on bergamot and green notes, moves through a heart of rose de mai, jasmine, and osmanthus, and closes on musk, sandalwood, and civet. Its name refers to the fragrance's reported cost per ounce at launch, continuing Patou's established marketing tradition of emphasizing extravagant material cost that Joy had pioneered four decades earlier. Osmanthus, a delicately apricot-and-leather-scented flower prized in Chinese perfumery, gives 1000 a distinctive fruity-floral character.
