Created by Francis Kurkdjian for Jean Paul Gaultier, Le Male opens on mint, lavender, bergamot, and cardamom, moves through a heart of cinnamon and cumin, and closes on vanilla, amber, tonka bean, and sandalwood. Its striking sailor-torso bottle and unusual pairing of fresh mint-lavender with warm vanilla and skin-like cumin made it one of the most commercially successful and widely imitated masculine fragrances of the following decades, establishing a lavender-vanilla template still referenced across mainstream men's perfumery today.
