Created by Jacques Cavallier for Jean Paul Gaultier, Classique opens on rose, orange blossom, and mandarin, moves through a heart of ylang-ylang, ginger, and star anise, and closes on vanilla, amber, musk, and sandalwood. Its bottle, shaped like a corseted torso in a tin can, became one of the most recognizable fragrance packaging designs of the 1990s, and the composition's warm, spiced rose structure helped establish Gaultier as a major fragrance house alongside its provocative fashion identity.
