Created by Maurice Blanchet for the fashion house Worth, Dans la Nuit, In the Night, opens on bergamot and aldehydes, moves through a heart of ylang-ylang, jasmine, and rose, and closes on musk, sandalwood, vanilla, and amber. The fragrance was presented in a distinctive dark blue glass bottle by Lalique, its surface pressed with a pattern of stars, designed to evoke a literal night sky and making it one of the more visually striking packaging designs of the aldehydic-floral era. Worth, primarily known as a couture house since Charles Frederick Worth founded it in the 1850s, had entered perfumery only a few years earlier, following the same fashion-house-extends-into-fragrance model Poiret's Rosine had pioneered. The aldehydic opening situates it firmly within the wave of Chanel-No.-5-adjacent compositions released across the industry in the early 1920s.
