Serge Lutens’ Chêne (2004) is an austere, unisex woody perfume that evokes an aged oak forest. Its opening bursts with fresh oak and birch, quickly giving way to a rich, smoky rum accord that thickens into a warm, leathery base of beeswax and tonka bean. The subtle spice of caraway and thyme lingers, making the scent both earthy and slightly sweet, a signature “oak‑barrel” experience that has earned Chêne a reputation as one of the house’s most memorable creations.
