Created by Francis Fabron for Givenchy, L'Interdit, The Forbidden, opens on aldehydes, bergamot, and peach, moves through a heart of iris, rose, jasmine, and violet, and closes on sandalwood, musk, and vetiver. The fragrance was created at the request of Audrey Hepburn, a close friend and muse of designer Hubert de Givenchy, and was initially reserved exclusively for her personal use before public demand led Givenchy to release it commercially, a rare and celebrated origin story in perfumery. Its aldehydic iris-violet heart produces a powdery, refined elegance fitting for its close association with Hepburn's own understated screen glamour. L'Interdit remains one of Givenchy's most historically significant fragrances, notable both for its exceptional aldehydic-floral construction and its rare distinction as a perfume created for and named in connection with a specific real muse.
