Royal Cyclamen(1920)

A cyclamen soliflore from Houbigant's in-house perfumers, opening on bergamot before the cyclamen heart, closing on musk and woods. The Royal naming continues the aristocratic-association convention common across the house's catalog since Fougere Royale nearly four decades earlier, though by 1920 such titles had become a generic marketing convention across the industry rather than a claim to any specific documented commission. Cyclamen's delicate, cool, slightly peppery scent had appeared as a soliflore subject before, including in Coty's 1913 cyclamen composition, reflecting the note's modest but genuine popularity as a subject for single-flower showcases in the pre- and immediate postwar period. As with the house's other simple soliflores from this window, detailed documentation beyond the basic note structure has not survived in great depth. It represents one of Houbigant's more modest single-flower releases from the early 1920s, alongside the house's more ambitious multi-material compositions.
